Real problem
If you can solve your client’s problem, she’ll gladly pay you for it. One of my client’s back fence backs up on to school board property which is let go wild. School board budgets are tight. If a neighbour’s fence is destroyed by prickly bramble, oh well. That’s where I come in.
I’ve done work in this zone before. I know it well. When this lady called me I had to ask her to wait. I was swamped with last lawn cuts and leaf clean up. Brush-cutting is perfect winter work. It can be done in ugly weather, even if it’s minus outside. And that’s a big deal for a Daddy with two teenagers to feed.
Let’s do this!
Just days away from Christmas I finally got to this project and it was quick! Generating extra revenue days from Christmas is the absolute best case for my part-time landscaping business. I was beaming! There would be cookies and milk for Santa.
Never brush cut without a helmet and face shield, plus ear protection. I wear glasses so I don’t use safety goggle but I highly recommend doubling up: shield over goggles.
Gloves and good boots are also nice to have.
My Echo attachment still had a disc on it with chainsaw teeth so I changed it to a new star I bought from Amazon. New blades are sharp and it is nice to test no-name blades delivered to my house by Amazon. Echo blades look the same but the brand will cost you more; it’s also annoying ordering and driving to pick the blades up from my nearest Echo dealer.
Note that the two blades come with little rings. I needed them and you might, too. So don’t lose them. I bought as a set of two which should last me for a while.
Prickly bramble
I usually brush cut high first to make room. Once the canes are down, you can go lower. I did a really good job here but was sketchy. Take a few minutes to check things over once you can see a little bit. There are concrete chunks and plant debris in the way; some bramble is growing into pines.
I levelled the area and left. The hard part took maybe thirty minutes. I obviously didn’t blow anything because it’s a wild zone.
Problem solved! And remember that this prickly bramble will eventually grow back. I hope the lady has me on speed dial. Call me if you need help in 2025!! New clients are welcome!!
