2nd opinion
What do you do when two landscape professionals give you different opinions on proper deep edging? Like most people, you Google it. Duh. That’s what one dude did after I showed him how to deep edge properly. He immediately told me that my training clashed with what he learned earlier in the week from another, less experienced, foreman.
So, he went home and Googled “how to deep edge” and eventually clicked on the second entry titled “How to deep edge like a pro”. Sounded perfect! But, as he read the brilliant blog post from 2017, he thought it sounded familiar.
Seconds later, horrified, he looked at the web page URL, vassladek.com. That was his landscape manager Vas Sladek. Which meant that he wasn’t at the right place to get a second opinion. I had given him my opinion in the field already.
But this was better than stand-up comedy. When he told me about it later at work, I laughed.
Solid lessons
Like stand-up comedy, there is always some truth behind the jokes. My blog post from 2017 will stand for a long time because the technical notes are sound. Let’s review: the spade should hit the bed edge at 90 degrees, and you have to put your foot behind the tool before you kick the dirt away. This way you don’t round off the edge. And any dirt chunks must be broken up; and grass bits removed.
The other important lesson is that the search engine optimization (SEO) is working nicely. When a local landscaper searches for proper deep-edging advice and your blog post shows up on page one, it’s solid gold. I fill out the SEO for every blog post I publish, which is mandatory.
Another important point is service. The internet is a crowded, busy place. It makes me feel good when I find one person who benefitted from my blog post. It’s a bit flimsy but we can still call it traction. It gives me some hope and motivates me to create more landscape posts. That’s what professional bloggers do. So, please, keep reading and leaving comments. I appreciate every visitor to my blog. If you made it this far, thank you. I know you’re busy.
If I can help one person with my blog post, I’m happy.
