Red Seal Vas sets his 2023 goals

Be brave

I don’t beat myself up too much when I don’t reach all of my goals but I think it’s important to write something down. Below is my wish list. Feel free to share yours in the comments. I’d love to see what people want to achieve in 2023. Here we go, in random order.

Merchandise

It’s been my dream for a long time to create my own merchandise for sale on this blog so I can keep plugging away. And also my own merchandise to wear at my day-job, side-job and afterhours. Think T-shirts, caps.

Since I don’t want to have a lot of stock at home, in the beginning everything will be made and shipped on demand through another party. Eventually, I hope to have my own local stock.

Big tree tour of California

This has also been on my wish list for a while. I visited California in 2019 for the first time and then I learned about the Great Basin Bristlecone pines, the oldest non-clonal trees on earth. Then the pandemic hit and borders closed. Now, I’m hoping to go in 2023, sometime after May, that’s when the Schulman Grove visitor centre outside Bishop, California, opens.

First on the list are the Redwoods in North California. From there I hope to cut down south-east to Yosemite to see the giant Sequoias. The bristlecones are located east of Yosemite, in the eastern ranges of the Sierra Nevadas. I desperately want to touch the bristlecone pines but first I have to climb up to 10,000 feet elevation. Some of the trees are 4-5,000 years old. They’re so awesome, I will blog about them separately. If I do it right, you’ll probably visit them as well.

The bonus? Bishop, California, sits in the Owens valley which is very dry. But it wasn’t always like that. The valley used to be green but now most of the Sierra Nevada runoff gets poached so Los Angeles can survive.

New book versions

In 2017, I released a few eBooks as a test. Now, in 2023, most of them will get re-edited and, here’s the best news, I will release some of them in book and audio versions. That is another dream of mine. Take one eBook and monetize it through different formats.

I will post updates and reviews here. If you read this blog regularly, you will be able to message me for free copies.

Education

You can’t stop learning, whatever age or stage of life you’re in. My target is the online turf management program from the University of Georgia. It’s fairly cheap at US$400, self-paced, gives you landscape industry certification once you pass it, and the University of Georgia is a leader in turf grass sciences.

As a West Coast resident, I have no experience with warm season grasses and this course will at least introduce me to them.

My own side-hustle landscape company will sponsor me!

2023

Whatever you decide to do in 2023, I hope it works out well for you. As always, comments are welcome. I hope to create unique content that educates and, if I’m lucky, entertains.

Happy New Year!!
