How to re-purpose landscape blogs into e-books

Becoming a professional landscape blogger was a dream come true. And as I read about blogging I came across an interesting idea. Re-purposing.

The idea is to re-use your already published blog posts either by turning them into new, longer posts or assembling them into e-books. What a brilliant idea! So I had to test it out, naturally.

Step 1 Blog posts

Since I had already published close to 300 blog posts, I simply had to sift through them, pick a topic and group them into a logical pile. In the end I settled on Landscape Tree Maintenance and picked a number of decent tree posts.

Here is my blog post grouping.

  1. The power of one tree
  2. Tree topping
  3. Tree planting
  4. Collisions between trees and equipment
  5. Soil compaction
  6. Too many leaves?
  7. Girdling
  8. Mulch mountains
  9. Wildlife trees
  10. Redneck tree removal
  11. Watering bags
  12. Stump grinding
  13. co-dominance on maples
  14. Young trees in turf

Step 2 Designrr

I use Designrr software which simply asks for the URL of all of the 14 posts above. It grabs the URL and imports only the text and pictures of my blog posts. To see how it works visit the designrr website. I paid for lifetime access before monthly subscription charges went it; and I’m glad I did.

Once I was happy with the look of my e-book I saved my work in pdf. You can also save it in mobi for kindle and ePUB.

Step 3 Kindle Create

This free beta program imports your pdf and packages it into a file that’s ready for upload to Kindle Direct Publishing.

Step 4 KDP

You will need your free Kindle Direct Publishing account. Then simply click on new e-book project and import the packaged file from step 3. After that, import or create your cover page and set things like price, distribution and content ownership. Your new e-book should be live in under 72 hours.

My new baby

The cover was a quickie. I will generate a nicer looking cover soon. The e-book is FREE on Amazon Kindle until Thursday August 10, 2017. Download it today. And if you can, please post your review on Amazon Kindle. Reviews are gold!!
