Crankshafts die
Mower crankshafts can die a painful death when workers collide with fixed objects while the blade is engaged. This causes damage to the crankshaft which holds the sharp blade and spins it. It was designed to spin, not to get violently jammed mid-flight.
While the mower blade is easy to replace, the crankshaft on a commercial self-propelled mower can cost you $850 in British Columbia. Plus labor. And, worse, the mower is never the same again.
Incredibly, one worker destroyed two (2!) crankshafts in two hours and is now unemployed.
Online course
This disaster might have been prevented if the dude had taken my online course titled “Top 5 lawn care mistakes“. It’s only C$25 and can be completed in one sitting. Please visit https://bclandscapeacademy.com for more. If your employer can’t sponsor you and you can’t find an extra $25, please contact me for a discount code.
Sometimes, new workers need to see the twisted wreckage to understand what happens to mower parts. In my course I encourage all workers to mow only over grass (duh!) and work without stress. Knowing how much new mower parts cost can also help.
Safety
Yes, employers freak out when people cause damage on the job. They hire people to provide good service and generate profits. Destroying a mower crankshaft is the very opposite.
It’s also dangerous because the metal mower blade is sharp and spins very fast. It wasn’t meant to bite violently into metal covers or exposed tree roots. Who knows what metal bits will fly off. Not to mention damage caused to infrastructure and trees. Your clients don’t want to see that.
Training
So, here we are, talking about training again. I created my online course Top 5 lawn care mistakes because the mistakes I see lawn care workers make, unfortunately repeat. Over and over. Why not go through a quick course right at the beginning.
I’m also hoping to get rich and use the money to grow this blog. Jokes aside, I am planning to add more courses so the site feels like an academy.
Conclusion
Pay attention when you mow lawns. Only mow over grass and if you’re starting to stress, something’s wrong. Never collide with tree roots or infrastructure mid-flight. It’s dangerous, it leads to mower damage and it could cost you your job.
Contact me for a discount code and you’ll never make the top five lawn care mistakes people make. Learn from their mistakes.
Be great!
