Vaccination day
I find pandemics and vaccinations depressing business. But, I had to go get my second shot this past Saturday. And as luck would have it, the vaccination center is at the Poirier complex in the City of Coquitlam, British Columbia. It’s roughly a ten minute drive from my home and I know the complex well.
I did my first season as a professional gardener (not landscaper!) with the City of Coquitlam parks department in 2014. And the majority of my work happened at the Poirier complex. So, as I walked to get my shot inside the lacrosse bubble, I enjoyed the green distractions.
You might as well get your shots in a place surrounded by greenery.
Business first
Before I walked into the lacrosse bubble, I walked past my buddy whose job it is to direct traffic. When the pandemic first hit, he lost his good mechanic’s job with a major Canadian airline and now they were paying him the same amount to direct traffic. Not bad. He also wasn’t very busy because not many people get up early to get vaccinated.
I checked in, sat down and five minutes later a lovely young doctor pulled up to administer my shot. Then I had to wait the usual fifteen minutes before exiting the bubble. And this time I came ready with an article to read from the Globe and Mail so I wouldn’t waste the full fifteen minutes watching people get vaccinated.
Some fun
On the way out I rewarded myself with pictures of some cool plants. The first two pictures are from a white garden we installed in 2014 with my gardener boss and now mentor, Tracey Mallinson.
And finally, one of my favorite trees, Albizia julibrissin. In 2014 I had no idea what tree this was and I’m glad my boss introduced me to it. The flowers are super fragrant and when you get close to them, they tickle your nose nicely.
Yes or no
I’m not a doctor and to be honest, I was 50/50 with this COVID vaccination business so I will not give out any medical advice in this blog post. But, if you go, try to distract yourself with greenery on the way in and out. It really worked for me.
