Kress game-changer
Kress, the professional outdoor power equipment brand from Germany is promising to deliver what I always wanted: battery-powered, quiet, non-polluting tools. Tools that are strong enough to get my job done without polluting my lungs and the environment. It almost sounds too good to be true; and too soon. But there it is. Imagine, no more gas and oil mixing; no more stops at the gas station to buy outrageously expensive fuel.
The Kress tools should be available in late January in the Lower Mainland of British Columbia thanks to the best local dealer, Foreshore Equipment. I will buy the commercial self-propelled mower and publish my test results on this blog.
Why game-changer?
The complaint from professional landscapers has always been about batteries taking too long to charge and the power output of the tools not being good enough. A homeowner can cut a small lawn and recharge his batteries without stress. Professionals are moving all day, they don’t have time to wait for charging and they need solid output.
The biggest pain point was the blower. Gas-powered blowers are heavy, noisy and they pollute. Every fall landscapers risk their health when they blow leaf piles in groups of three or more. All it takes is one dude to tilt the wrong way and your face is full of exhaust.
But, blowers like the Stihl 800 are strong and get the job done. It’s hard to give up a machine like that for some dinky battery-powered unit that could run out of juice before the job is done. No more, says Kress. They have a blower available and I can’t wait to test it in my own side-hustle operation in 2023.
So what did Kress do differently? They produced an eight-minute Cyber charging system! One YouTuber swears that his Kress mower re-charges in 15 minutes. That eliminates one pain point, having to wait for charging or having to buy multiple battery packs.
And what about power? Kress is confidently calling for the death of gas-powered outdoor equipment because the power generated from their tools equals or exceeds gas-powered units. Conclusion
If the Kress tools deliver what they promise, then the landscape industry will see huge changes. Personally, I would love to use battery-operated tools. They’re quiet, they don’t pollute the environment or my lungs, and they eliminate gas station stops.
Of course, all of this will make sense only if the power output is really equal or bigger than that of gas-powered tools. I can’t wait to find out. Check back in February, 2023. I might have some news for you from a certified landscape professional, conducting his own test runs.
